Launched by the French Institute, a series of French-Asian debates on the theme "Livable Cities" will be taking place respectively in Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok and Hanoi, between the 5th - 13th October 2019.
The issue of pollution and in particular, air pollution is ever more pressing in South-East-Asia. In this context, the two French experts KarineLéger, director of AirParif, Air pollution monitoring network for Paris region OlivierChrétien, head of the “Environmental Impacts Division” at the Urban Ecology Agency of the City Of Paris will be discussing these issues with local stakeholders in South-East Asia.
On the occasion of their visit, the Embassy of France in Thailand has organized two conferencesinBangkok (9thand10thOctober2019) in partnership with local institutions (universities, research institutes, municipality and civil society).
- On October 9th, a film-debate will be held based on the documentary by Arte: Unbreathable - Cities on the verge of asphyxiation, with a participation of biogeochemist from IRD based in Hanoi, Xavier Mari, Vice President of Siriraj Poison Control Center, Dr. Roman Meinhold and Grassroots Action Program (GAP) Manager at Thailand Environment Institute (TEI), Dr Chamniern Paul Vorratnchaiphan.
On October 10th, forty speakers from India, France, and South-East Asia will be exchanging for the international conference "Political Ecology in Asia: Plural Knowledge and Contested Development in a More-Than-Human World", co -organised by the Institute for sustainable development, (IRD) the Center for Social Development Studies (CSDS), the Research Institute on Contemporary Southeast Asia (IRASEC), the French Institute of Pondicherry (IFP), IRN-SustainAsia, and POLLEN Political Ecology Network, to be held at Chulalongkorn University (Faculty of Political Science).
